The Sustaind Project

THE SusTaIND Project (A Sustainable Textile Approach for India) maps material flows of waste new textile from a given pilot area of 7 square kilometers in Bangalore – a city where the landfills are overflowing and policies fall short of teeth to enforce. The project facilitates a clean water ecosystem empowered by art in the community. The pilot implementation engages textile waste producers, local governing authorities, designers, and locals, as scrap fabric is upcycled into sustainable textile art-offerings. Simultaneously, it builds community in a fractured class divide. The architecture project is found at the interstices of these engagements.
