The fish deconstructs into a woven central spine and covering sheath, and is balanced delicately on a single stand poised almost as a specimen in a museum. The lightness of its being and its smooth contours contrast with the skillful weaving of the underbelly being woven continuously with a single strand of wire. The object can be viewed from around and from below. The objects in this collection are part of Thinking Table, an ongoing series by Nisha Mathew Ghosh that reconsiders the familiar vocabulary of the home and hearth. Drawing from the forms and functions of everyday culinary tools or vessels, the series reflects on how domestic objects carry memory, labor, ritual, and care.
