Bethel Baptist Church

The project for the Bethel Baptist Church looks at the transformation of the traditional, ecclesiastical, spatial type and its interpretation in the present context – as well as examines the thresholds and negotiations between the neighborhood and the place of worship.

In an expression of the close fellowship of the body of believers as a result of the dimension of worshipful awe of loving God, this building is a radical transformation of the ‘traditional’ linear nave-aisle space to an expanded, inclusive space.

Within, the perceived external cuboid transforms into a exuberant space by a series of shifting planes (a solid form sculpted from within) which together with the gently stepped floor leads to the altar –the joy of worship of God.
